Featuring Bunnies on eBay !

Although most of the critters I create are teddy bears, I do endulge myself in the occasional bunny; seven of them to be exact have arrived in our home over the past year or so.

This afternoon I carefully placed all of them on the proverbial deck rail for their photo session. Although the wind was blowing a little, I thought I could get away with it if I took the photo rather quickly.

To my dismay, I was not quick enough in pressing the shutter on my digital camera. First Tucks blew off the railing and not being content to go it alone, he took little Radio Flyer along with him. The rest of the bunnies fell face first onto the deck.

Tucks landed on his head right below the deck railing while Radio Flyer tumbled head over heels on a fast track to the street, approximately 150 feet below our house. By the time I caught up with Radio Flyer and headed back up the hill to gather Tucks into my arms, I was quite winded.

Not wanting to repeat the performance, I placed all of the bunnies in an empty planter hanger to pose for their picture.

They are all listed in the bunny section of my eBay store. If you click here, you will be taken there.

Thanks for checking in with us and happy days ahead! Hugs from Vicki and the bears (and the bunnies)

OK, I'm a Basketball Nut...

Spring is the busiest and most exciting time of the year for me. Not only do I get excited about the garden and greenhouse, redecorating and spring cleaning, new teddy bears and just plain walks, I am a basketball nut and the NBA post season playoffs began yesterday. How to fit it all in, is my most pressing problem. And, although we live in a rain forest, it just seems that all the sunny days take place just about the time NBA playoffs start.....

How can life contain so many good things? It just does, and I guess it's all a balancing act. Yesterday morning I woke up and it was partly sunny outside; day two of the NBA playoffs: I have a greenhouse to clean up, a garden to work in, teddies screaming to be made... and a husband, mother, grandkids, friends, and other people to tend to.

And here I sat... still in PJ's.... waiting for the first game to begin. At 11:00 a.m. Alaska time the Lakers met the Jazz. Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz grew up in Juneau and played high school basketball here, so watching the Jazz is special.

Sewing and basketball don't really go hand in hand. It is difficult to stare intently at a teddy bear face in progress, when also staring intently at a television set that has players running up and down a court carrying a ball and throwing it in a hoop. Many times while stitching an eye or embroidering a nose, I miss the most important basketball play (thank goodness for the instant replay, is all I can say)!

I did manage to finish little Basketball Jones, born on the first day of the NBA playoffs, April 18, 2009. He's not a player, but he's a watcher and he is very grateful that he got his teddy bear eyes sewn in, just in time to see the playoffs.

Thanks for checking in! Little Mr. Jones will be available on my website later today (or maybe tomorrow)!

A balancing act, for sure.

Spring Has Arrived in Alaska!

Yesterday evening I spotted the crocus.

Every Spring for as long as I have lived in our house the first sign of Spring is the appearance of one lone crocus that pokes its little head through the maize of weeds and grass that cover the hillside where we live.

We've had what seems like a never ending winter here in Juneau and I have been patiently waiting for the ground to appear from underneath the mounds of snow.

Yesterday it was sunny and I let our two kitties out on the deck to play in the sunshine. When I looked down at the embankment... there it was, our promise of Spring, our lone purple crocus.

What a little miracle it is. A shock of purple and yellow busting through the soaking brown mass of dead grass.

Thank you little crocus. You made me smile today.

Hugs to everybody, from Vicki and the bears

Spring Ling and Honey Bunny

I've been busy working on little bears lately. My most recent bear, Spring Ling, was finished today. Little Honey Bunny made her appearance on Saturday. I love these little ones, however, my eyes are hurting so I'm going to start on some larger sizes later this week. I bought some new mohair about a month ago, and I'm anxious to see who appears from the pile.

Enjoy the photos...and thanks for stopping by.

Oh, by the way, Spring Ling and Honey Bunny are both listed on my website .

Changing The Focus

Yesterday on my blog entry, I introduced one of my newest creations, Boston, amid a slight tirade about winter hanging on for what seems like forever in our beautiful State.

Today I decided to share a bit of springtime with you, that I somehow overlooked this year.

I have a Hoya (some call it Wax Plant) that lives in the corner of my living room. This beautiful plant has been in my charge for over ten years. Every year without fail, beginning in February and ending in October, this plant blesses our home with some of the most beautiful and precious flowers I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. In addition, the flowers put out a scent in the early evening that is almost heavenly.

Little Sterling begged me to let him pose atop the newest cluster of blossoms so I could take his picture and offer some perspective on the flowers and the plant. Sterling is slightly less than 2” tall and as you can see the blossoms are little clusters of tiny star-like blooms.

I’ve decided to let Sterling nest for a while on the blossom and when I look over at him, I can remember that Spring exists, and sometimes it’s just a matter of changing the focus.

Have a wonderful day!

Boston Says Hi!

Meet Boston, my latest little teddy, born on March 31st. I've listed him on eBay, so if you are interested, scroll to the bottom on the page and you should be able to click on his picture.

It is still winter here in Alaska. If you want to see pictures, check out my March 21st blog entry... it doesn't look much different today than it did then. Upon awakening this morning, the view included two inches of fresh snow on our deck. You might think that since I live in Alaska I should be used to the snow by now. Well.....

Normally by this time in Southeast Alaska, we really are experiencing Spring. Little tulips are starting to poke their heads, the ground is nice and warm, and people have even been known to get a suntan sitting on their deck in April. This year, that is not the case. No sitting on the deck just yet.. no little tulip faces just yet... no deer or bears in site.. just yet.

I took my attitude "pill" today.... which basically is the decision to buck up and smile and get on with life. Snow will go away. We will have Spring. And, if we don't, I'll just have more time for teddy making......there's nothing bad about that!

I'm off to visit my Mom. She always makes me feel better.

Hugs to all, Vicki and the bears
